1966 62X and 64X
back to galleryspecifications

The Tandberg Series 6X stereo tape deck's design stemmed from the series 6 unit.

It was available in either half-track stereo (62X) or quarter-track (64X) stereo versions and featured separate erase, record and playback heads plus a fourth crossfield bias head.

Instant A-B monitoring was available as was sound-on-sound and echo effects.

Three tape speeds were provided.

Each channel had three inputs and separate volume controls for record and playback. A hysteresis synchronous motor provided constant speed with minimum wow and flutter.

This was a hybrid design, using valves for the audio section and twin magic eye level indicators plus a solid-state oscillator/bias section.

A test report and circuit diagram for this recorder are featured on the CD ROM.
